What is Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent Liposuction is a premier offering here at The Center. Robert Gordon, M.D. is a true artist with tremendous experience in sculpting the body. The procedure is for sculpting arms, the back, knees, inner and outer thighs, buttocks and the abdomen area. The procedure is done under local anesthesia that results in the permanent removal of localized deposits of fat that cannot be removed by dieting or exercise.

How is the procedure performed?

A small, stainless steel tube called a cannula is connected to a powerful suction pump. The cannula is inserted through very small skin incisions and the fat is removed.

Is it safe?

This is the safest form of liposuction. There is no IV sedation, general anesthesia or narcotic pain killers.

How long before I see results?

Improvement is usually noted within six weeks, but the ultimate results can take three months up to a year.

Does the fat come back?

Liposuction is permanent fat removal. Healthy eating and exercise are important for overall total body fitness.

Does the skin sag after liposuction?

The skin has elastic and collagen fibers and is able to redrape and contract without any noticeable sagging.

How much weight will I lose?

Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss and exercise. It is not performed for weight control and is not a treatment for general obesity.

Is there much pain?

When the local anesthesia is injected there is minimal discomfort. The local anesthesia lasts over 12 hours after the procedure is done.

Are there any side effects of this treatment?

Common side effects include bruising (minimal and usually gone within two weeks), swelling, and rarely, temporary numbness.

Who are the best candidates?

People who are in good health and have realistic expectations make the best candidates.
